Wow, hard to believe we are now half-way into our first quarter. Artists at TES have been working really hard, and we want to show you all the cool stuff we've been making! (Pictures coming soon.)
4th graders are learning about stories, and how art was originally created to tell stories over time. They created cave art drawings, inspired by caves in Lascaux, France, and even went on a virtual tour through the cave with this awesome website. They also learned about Greek pottery and stained glass windows, both of which were also used to tell stories but were from different times and parts of the world.
3rd graders are learning about movement, and how movement can be actual or can be implied in artworks. They have learned about Keith Harring, Jackson Pollock, and Edgar Degas; again, all different artists who utilize this idea differently in their work. If you would like to check out some online games that are inspired by these artists, click the links below:

2nd grade artists are learning about humor, and having a GREAT time! They looked at Le Cirque by Henri Matisse, drawings by Pablo Picasso, and ginormous sandwiches inspired by Claes Oldenburg. From the feedback I've received, I think their favorite project in this unit has been the Dodo Bird sculptures, which are now on display at TES.
1st grade artists are learning about nature. We discuss various different parts of nature, including rocks, plants, animals, and different types of animals including reptiles, birds, insects, and so on. They have created alphabet owls, hungry caterpillars, lions, and their own Stonehenge scenery. Our first graders were fascinated by Stonehenge, and would love to give you a tour of it here.
Kindergarten artists are learning about recycling. It is an important idea to learn, especially in the art room, because we reuse and recycle things EVERY DAY! To use for artmaking, they've recycled CDs, bubble wrap, paint chips, and newspaper so far. In these lessons they have learned about the basic elements of art, too, including lines, shapes, and colors.
Be sure to check out our Artsonia page here, or click on the "Our Studio" link to see the fabulous artworks our students make at TES. They are all so wonderfully creative and courageous in their art explorations!
